Wednesday 29th June – walk **** – Dedham along the Stour – mainly cloudy but close with a few light showers.

After waiting several weeks for my new Starboard windsurfing foil to arrive we actually drove over to Fluidlines in Colchester today. As it was cloudy today with the threat of showers it was exercises in the back room listening to the excellent Wet Leg LP :) Then Mag packed tuna pasta and we set off arriving at the windsurf shop around midday, the first time for many years but Dave and Tom Peek were very friendly and soon made us a cuppa before I got down to the serious business of checking out the new kit with Tom:) It does look great but as usual I am very nervous of using new kit but after a few outing I am sure it will become worry free especially if I can work out whayt spacer to use on the back wing! Then Mag did the business at the till, I must at this point say a very big thank you to Maggie without her support and encourage I think I would be foil less as it’s such a big expense! Then with the new kit safely stowed in the van we head back down the A 12 to Dedham on the banks of the River Stour still in Essex. We manage to get a nice spot by the mill pool where you can laund your paddle board or canoe and it only cost £1.20 for the afternoon. We enjoyed our lunch watching the ducks, swans and the odd canoe pass. Then we set off on our walk, first around the mill pool with loads of teenagers about enjoying the river, their exams must be finished! There were two friendly horses in the field but sadly their eyes were covered in flies, must drive them nuts! Then over the road where a large herd of cows were with many paddling with some rowing boats setting off, as pretty as a picture especially with the dark skies:) With my heel still not great we decided to walk as far as the woodern footbridge across the river, just ambling along in Constable country, we haven’t been this way for at least three years! Sadly, the footbridge has been removed with no replacement in sight which means a long detour to get to Flatford. A lovely young lady walking her setter arrived and made friends with Mag straight away and she told us the bridge which apparently was unsafe was removed some time ago with the new one hopefully arriving in September:) Then back to the van and we took the back route home via Lawford, Manningtree and Tattingstone, so a top day with some exciting days ahead on the water to look forward too:)
